Makeup has the ability to enhance our beauty. By adding a group of cosmetics to our world, like mascara, lipstick, eye shadows, foundations, eyeliners and brow pencils, you can become the person you want to be. With the help of these tools, you can improve your appearance; it has the ability to make you look and feel good inside and out. There are so many things that we can do when working with makeup. Makeup allows you to create many different looks for many different occasions as well. You can create different shapes, different lines, and blend many colors together to create your desired look.

Mascara

Mascara is made from a water base and is used to color your lashes and stretch them to make them appear longer. When wearing mascara make sure not to apply too much so you won’t have clumped eyelashes. Mascara is the finishing touch to your make up, it compliments your eyes, by helping them appear bigger, brighter, and lighter. You may also use waterproof mascara, which is a mixture of oils that make it harder to smear. It helps those who do sports and do any water activities. By wearing waterproof mascara you won’t have to deal with mascara running onto your face. Also there are cake mascaras, these were used years ago. This mascara gives your eyelashes a natural look. In order to apply this mascara, you would need to add water and stir with a mascara brush and then with another mascara brush, you would apply it like regular mascara.

The proper way of applying Mascara

Mascara can be tricky; you don’t want to wear too little or too much. You start at the bottom of your eyelid and slowly move side to side, as you work your way up to the tip of your eyelashes. Do this process until your eyelashes look full, long, and dark. If you do happen to apply too much and notice you have clumpy eyelashes, don’t worry this can be fixed. You may use a disposable mascara brush to brush through them as if you were combing your hair to untangle and separate the lashes.

Eyelids/Eye shadows

Before applying your eye shadow you need to make sure you have a primer. Having a primer is extremely important, it will allow the eye shadow to last longer, and prevent it from creasing. After you’ve applied your primer, you’re ready to apply your eye shadow. You have many options, like for example; you can have bright, dark, or nude colors. Nude colors will allow you to have a natural look, while bright and dark colors may vary depending on the look you’re going for. There are different types of eye shadows as well. For example, we have: mattes shimmer, frosted,or satin which all have different functions. Matte has higher pigments with no shine or shimmer and is used when you want to create a natural look. Shimmer has sparkles and it’s good to highlight your eye area. This is used for a sheer coverage look, meaning its light make up, not a full coverage. It won’t clog your pores. Frosted is very opaque, it’s usually like a white or silver color.  Satin has more of a silk feel to it. It applies smoothly and is highly pigmented. Remember; always want to wear an eye shadow that compliments your eyes. Make sure you blend your shadow well. After you’re done applying your eye shadow, if you have loose eye shadow around your eyes, or face, you can use a small brush and use a cover up concealer to even out your skin tone. You can also apply some under your eyes to cover your dark circles.

Pigments

Some of you may not be familiar with pigments. So let’s start like this…..

What are pigments? It’s the material that changes the color of reflected or transmitted light as the result of wavelength-selective absorption. What does this mean? Easy pigments show as the color they are because they reflect and absorb the color of visible light. How to apply? Same way you apply eye shadow.

Foundation

It’s not easy finding the P E R F E C T foundation out there, it’s always an issue. For example, some don’t cover, some don’t match our skin, some look patchy, or the biggest problem of all; some only last about an hour or two and then you look like you never even applied foundation. This usually causes people to reapply the foundation throughout the day which can cause harm to the skin, making your skin break out. Besides, who wants to reapply their make up all day in front of everyone? When looking for foundations you need to figure out what type of foundation you’re looking for. Sheer, medium or full coverage. It is very important to know if you prefer matte or dewy finishes on your skin ( matter= no shine, dewy = hydrated and glowing) Then you need to make the decision of what skin type you have, do you have dry skin, oily or balanced. After you’ve determined your skin type, you are ready to choose your foundation. When you choose your foundation, you can blend it using small circular movements with the brush.

IMPORTANT: When applying foundation, apply the foundation on the backside of your hand and use the foundation brush or sponge to apply it to the face. By doing this, you’re going to have a more natural finish.

Powder

Powder foundation can be used either as a top coat on top of your liquid foundation or as a quick cover up. You can apply your powder by doing circular motions to build the most coverage. Also the more you buff the powdered foundation into the skin the more luminous the skin appears. With your brush, work your way up and outward towards your hair line and always make sure your skin is well blended.

Concealer

A concealer is like a corrector. It works great for blemishes, pimples, and dark circles, making the skin appear even. They come in different variety of light and dark colors. Concealers are to be worn before or after your foundation, and should be blended in very well. In order to achieve the best look, you want to do a shade lighter when choosing your concealer.

Face and Primer

If you have fair skin, add shimmer and dap a bit of highlighter on your cheekbones, it will give you a natural beautiful glow. It’s always good to wear a primer, it helps your foundation last longer. You may apply the primer as you would any other daytime lotion. This evens out the texture of your skin and allows your foundations to last longer. Also it avoids excess oil on your skin for a matte finish. Apply your moisturizer after your primer then apply your foundation for best finish. Applying your eye primer is easy, you can use the primer you’ve purchased and take your finger or makeup sponge and dab it on your eyes. Make sure you start from your lash line and go all the way up to your brow bones.

Liner

Eyeliners are great because they give the eyes a dramatic look. It allows your eye color to stand out, so when you start to apply the eyeliner, keep color in consideration. For example, when choosing the right color, always remember that the colors brown, bronze, and burgundy (dark colors) are great for light eyes. The color black is great for dark eyes, and the color silver is good for green and blue eyes. After you’ve decided what color you want to go with, you need to think about what type of look you want. Pencil eyeliners will give your eyes a softer look while liquid liners will give you a more dramatic look. When applying liquid eyeliner you want to make sure that your liner is dry before opening your eyes. Liquid eyeliner is known to crack or smudge if it’s not applied correctly. If in any case, you smudge your eyeliner, do not panic, it is fixable! Get a damp q-tip, remove the error and continue where you left off. You may also use eye shadow as your liner by using a flat brush. When applying, make sure your elbows are on a flat surface, it will help by stabalizing your hand to create a straighter line. For thicker lashes, you can apply the eyeliner on your lash line. After, soften the look of your liner by using a small smudge brush or your finger lightly. When you’re done with your top lid, go down to your bottom lashes. At the time you’re lining your bottom lashes, trace your lashes going outward to inward. Make the outer line thicker and then re-trace over it to make the liner look as dark as you desire.

Brow

For the most natural look, fill your brows using an eye shadow that closely matches your hair color, You can start by using any angle brush to give your brows more form. Make sure you give your brow a nice arch. You may brush your eyebrows through with a disposable mascara brush and then you can get a brow kit. The brow kit helps you hold and define your brows, it works like hairspray would work for you hair, keeps them in line. Unfortunately there is no actual tool that would create the perfect arch but if you follow the next few steps you’ll achieve an arch. First, find the area where the arch should start. After, place a pencil alongside your nostril so that the tip of the pencil lines up with your pupil, that’s where your arch needs to start.

Blush

Finding the right blush can be a little difficult. You don’t want to get one that is too dark or too red. There are times where we also apply way too much blush forcing us to want to just re-do our whole make up. Now you won’t have to, just use the same foundation brush or sponge you used to apply foundation and dab a little on your cheek so it won’t look as bright. There are other times where the problem may be that your blush clumps up when you apply your blush after putting on your foundation. This may happen when you apply creamy foundation, I would recommend that you apply a powder then a blush for best results. It will give you a natural look. When applying your blush makes sure to use a round brush. At time of application, look into the mirror, and smile. As you smile, apply blush to brush up your cheekbone and all the way back to your hair line.

Bronzer

Bronzers are great, they give you that shimmery summer look, giving you a natural glow. In order to achieve this look your going to have to choose the best bronzer for you. When looking for your perfect bronzer, make sure you choose a color darker than your skin. It’s best to get the color that you usually have when you are tan. Now, as a reminder, bronzers aren’t to be applied to your whole face. Apply on each side of your nose, on your forehead, cheeks and your chin by using small circular motions with light strokes. When you have applied your bronzer, get a makeup pad (the ones you use for applying foundation) and pat around your skin to give it a more natural look.

BRUSH CLEANER: It’s imperative to clean your brushes at least every week. If you don’t clean them an odor will soon accumulate and that smell will transfer off to your skin. Also if you don’t clean your brushes, there’s a big chance that you will start to break out. Reason being that there is bacteria accumulating on the brushes. Also if you don’t clean your make up brushes, you’ll end up throwing them away because eventually they will mess up your make up, changing the colors of your makeup kit as well. Cleaning your brush is easy; it just takes a few steps to do.
