Home-made remedies for skin, hair, and nails

Posted by: Kaely P.

Ever had situations where your skin doesn’t glow, your nails appear weak and unhealthy, and your hair doesn’t appear as shiny as you would like it to? Growing up, my grandmother always did natural remedies that helped our skin appear brighter, nails grow faster, and helped our hair look healthier. Here I will share with you some of her steps to healthy hair, nails and skin! Hope you enjoy and try them out!

Hair Remedies

Ingredients you will need:

Cinnamon Sticks
Water
Eggs
Olive Oil
shower cap or plastic bag

Instructions:
You will need to put water to boil (2 1/2 cups). Set the stove temperature on low, take two cinnamon sticks and put them into the water. Once the water begins to boil, turn off the stove, and let the water sit til it cools down. While you’re waiting for the water to cool, stir the eggs (1 egg for short hair – 2 eggs for long hair). Once the water is ready, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Stir all the ingredients VERY WELL. After, apply the mixture onto your hair. Make sure you apply it to the roots of your hair and scalp. After you’ve really covered all your roots, then start applying the mixture onto the rest of your hair. Finally, put a plastic cap or a plastic bag on your hair and wait about 30 minutes – then rinse. Do this weekly for better results!

Ingredients you will need:

Mayonaise
Olive Oil
Plastics cap or plastic bag

Instructions:
In a small bowl, mix 2-3 tablespoons of mayonaise and 2 teaspoons of olive oil together then apply it onto your hair. As always, start from your scalp/roots then work your way down. Cover your hair with a cap or plastic bag for about 45 minutes then rinse.

Ingredients you will need:

Coffee grinds
Cinnamon
Olive Oil
Plastic bag or plastics cap
Egg

Instructions:
Boil water and insert a cinnamon stick(1 or 2), then when the water thickens, mix one egg with one cup of coffee grinds inside the water. Once you have mixed it very well, apply it on your head from the roots to ends. Cover hair with a Plastic cap/bag and leave on for 25-30 minutes and rinse.

Ingredients you will need:

Avocado
Olive Oil

Instructions:
Take an Avocado, wait til it’s a little rotten and a little broken up. Blend the avocado, add one teaspoon of olive oil and mix it together, then apply it to your hair. As always, cover your hair with a plastic cap or plastic bag and then rinse after 30 minutes.

Hair Tip!
When you’re ready to go to sleep, you can do one of the following to assure that your hair stays healthy, and also to help reveal your natural shine.
1-Ponytail with a roller
2-Bun
3-Put up your hair up
4-Doobie
Afterwards, use a wool cap to cover your hair (any soft cap would work just fine.)

You may ask why a wool cap is needed? When you sleep without your hair being covered, it causes your hair to drag and get tangled as you turn, which reduces the shine from your hair as well.

What the above ingredients do?
Olive Oil: Will give you shine
Eggs/mayo: Streghtens your hair
Cinamon: Will allow your hair to grow and will prevent breakage/split ends.

Nail Remedies

Ingredients you will need:

garlic (whole)
Olive Oil
Eyeshadow brush
gloves

Instructions:
Peel the garlic, hold it in your hands, then dig your nails into the garlic. Next, with an eyeshadow brush, you will dip it in teaspoon full of virgin olive oil. Then apply the olive oil on top and underneath your nails. I recommend you do this before going to bed, and using gloves for the rest of the night to avoid any mess.

What this will do for your nails: This will make your nails stronger, thicker, and longer.

Skin Remedies

Ingredients you will need:

Cucumber
Oatmeal
Honey
Eggs
Carrots(optional)
Lemon
Olive Oil

Instructions:
Get a cucumber, cut two small pieces, and keep them aside. Then it’s time to create a mask. There are many masks you can make. The following are a few ideas of masks you could attempt.
-Oatmeal and Olive oil
-One that includes honey, and egg whites.
-Another one can be made by mixing/blending avocado, lemon, olive oil and you can add some carrots.
-In addition, another great mask is one with Honey and lemon. Mix it with a litttle bit of Olive oil, and egg whites.

*Put on your face, Keep it on for approximately 15-25 minutes before taking it off. Keep in mind you need to be completely relaxed! Do not talk, smile, or do anything!
While you have these masks on your face, you can now apply the cucumbers, like you would see in movies! Close your eyes and apply them to your eyelids. This will be served as a refresher/relaxer.

Why are these masks above good for your skin?

Lemon: Is citric and is an antibiotic, desiccant.
*Lemon will dry up your pimples.
Avocado and carrots: Vitamin A
Cucumber: Has many nutrients and will clean your pores
